  • When is it safe to plant your garden in the spring?
    Cold crops, including lettuce, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage &potatoes, all prosper in cooler weather and can be planted prior to April 30th. Certain crops such as tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, squashes & melons, prefer warmer temperatures and require the GROUND TEMPERATURE to be warmer. Therefore, those crops prefer to wait until after last frost (typically May 10th in our area).
  • What are the benefits of mulching?
    Not only does mulch keep weeds at bay, but it also conserves moisture in the ground.
  • What is considered "full sun" when planting? Part shade? Full shade?"
    If a location receives more than six hours of sunlight it is considered full sun. If a location receives between four and six hours of sun a day, it is considered part shade. If a location receives less than two hours of sun a day it is considered full shade.
  • What is the difference between a determinate and indeterminate tomato?
    Determinate tomato is generally mroe compact in size, ripen early and all at the same time. This type of tomato is useful if you are cannimg. If you want fruit throughout the growing season, then an indeterminate tomato is best as it will have a longer growth period and can produce fruit until frost arrives.
